Missouri
At least eight people, including an alleged gunman, are dead in south-central Missouri following after a series of overnight shootings at multiple crime scenes, according to local news reports.
Citing Texas county sheriff James Sigman, the Houston Herald newspaper reported that there are at least four confirmed crimes scenes, and possibly a fifth and sixth location in a neighboring Missouri county.
Citing Sigman, local media reported nine bodies were found, including the gunman’s. The Associated Press later reported eight dead, including the gunman, and another injured person sent to a local hospital. A press conference is expected at 10am ET.
A Missouri state highway patrol officer told the paper the alleged shooter was among the dead. Sergeant Jeff Kinder told the Associated Press the 36-year-old suspect was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound early Friday morning.
Meanwhile, state troopers and deputies have been mobilized in the area.
The Houston Herald reported that the staff at the district schools have been told to arrive early to provide counseling sessions; there has been no confirmation on whether children were killed.
Texas county, Missouri, is in the southern part of the state near the Arkansas border and has a population just under 30,000 people, according to the 2010 Census.
