iPhone 6S Release Date Leaked By Major Carrier.
Sadly a 4-inch premium iPhone 6S (proportional representation) looks unlikely |
Thanks to a leaked internal email from major UK carrier Vodafone we now know that date will be September 25th. Mobile News picked up the email which laid out the launch information to staff as well as when pre-orders will begin: September 18th.
Interestingly the email describes the handset as the ‘New iPhone’, which means we can’t 100% say it will be called the iPhone 6S – but ‘iPhone 7’ or even (taken literally) ‘New iPhone’ seem extreme for a handset which is expected to have only minor visual changes from its predecessor (despite radical internal upgrades).
Few Reasons For Doubt
Of course Vodafone’s news shouldn’t be the greatest of revelations. Apple has launched its last three iPhone generations in September and typically has a week’s gap between pre-orders and release.
That said no actual date had appeared until the Vodafone leak and it suggests Apple is well on top of production for this news to have gone to carriers four months away.
So what does this mean for the US?
That
you should be able to write the same dates in your calendar. For a
number of years now the UK and US have had simultaneous iPhone release
schedules. Furthermore, while the leak doesn’t reference the larger
iPhone 6S Plus, it is virtually guaranteed that the duo will launch
simultaneously alongside the leaked iPhone 6C.
All of which means we should expect an Apple unveiling event around 9-12 September.
And when were the iPhone 6, iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 announced? September 10th, 12th and 9th.
